    PLA Lifetime Achievement Award

The PLA Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the substantial contributions made to the practice of law and the local community by a past or present member of the Peel Law Association.

The nominated individual will have held a minimum ten-year membership with the Peel Law Association. It is the Board’s intention to formally recognize members of our own legal community for their years of dedication and service.

In 2023 the Board of Directors presented the PLA Lifetime Achievement Award to Anne Kennedy.

    Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award

In September 2015, while completing a bicycle fundraiser for Peel Memorial Hospital, Ralf Jarchow tragically passed away in British Columbia. Ralf was a founding partner of Prouse, Dash & Crouch, LLP, a longtime member of the PLA and other local organizations as well as a Peel resident - his involvement, contributions, and support to the community were deep and widespread.

The Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award has been established by the Peel Law Association in recognition of the outstanding contributions and support Ralf devoted toward many organizations in the Peel community.

As a further recognition and celebration of how Ralf lived his personal and professional lives, the PLA has created this award in order to recognize a PLA Member’s work as a volunteer and/or their service to the Peel community.

In 2017 the Board of Directors presented the Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award to Robert Callahan.

    Information provided on LexisNexis' website:

This title offers a detailed analysis of the many legal intricacies of mitigation, as well as practical tips for lawyers about how best to handle mitigation issues in their cases.

Mitigation is a key element of many employment law cases. From wrongful and constructive dismissal actions to human rights complaints, practitioners must consider the duty to mitigate and the impact it may have on their clients’ entitlements and liabilities. While at first glance, mitigation may appear to be a simple concept, upon deeper reflection, it presents myriad complex issues practitioners may have to address.

    Topics Covered

    • Evidence required to demonstrate a failure to mitigate
    • How the courts respond to a failure to mitigate
    • When income is considered part of mitigatory earnings
    • Statutory entitlements and the duty to mitigate
    • Duty to mitigate in the context of constructive dismissal
    • Mitigation in fixed-term contracts
    • Exceptions to the duty to mitigate
    • Plus much more
