Biographical Summary Vanassa was called to the Jamaican Bar in 2001. She practiced in the public service, before immigrating to Canada, where she was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009. Vanassa practiced at several GTA firms, as well as the Children's Aid Society for the Region of Peel, prior to opening her own practice. As a Per Diem Family Duty Counsel for Legal Aid Ontario, Vanassa serves clients in Family Domestic and Child Protection matters. She has Level I and II training in collaborative law, as well as training in mediation and domestic violence screening. She is also a Panel Lawyer for the Office of the Children's Lawyer and a member of the Dispute Resolution Officer Panel for the Superior Court of Justice, Brampton. Vanassa also sits on a number of outside committees serving vulnerable sections of the Peel community, including racialized minorities, victims of domestic violence, as well as at risk youth and children. Vanassa has authored several articles published in both the Jamaican and Canadian media. She is a motivational/inspirational speaker and poet. When not doing "legal work", Vanassa enjoys long walks, travelling, interior decorating, gardening, reading "non-law" books, listening to gospel music and spending time with her husband and two "miracle" boys. |
