Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award

In September 2015, while completing a bicycle fundraiser for Peel Memorial Hospital, Ralf Jarchow tragically passed away in British Columbia. Ralf was a founding partner of Prouse, Dash & Crouch, LLP, longtime member of the PLA and other local organizations as well as a Peel resident - his involvement, contributions, and support to the community were deep and widespread.

The Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award has been established by the Peel Law Association in recognition of the outstanding contributions and support Ralf devoted toward many organizations in the Peel community.

As a further recognition and celebration of how Ralf lived his personal and professional lives, the PLA has created this award in order to distinguish a PLA Member’s work as a volunteer and/or their service to the Peel community. In 2024 the Board of Directors presented the Ralf Jarchow Community Service Award to Vanassa Richards-Thompson.

If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please provide the following information and forward all relevant documentation directly to the PLA for consideration by the Nominating Committee at the email address provided below:

*NEW* Christine Torry Child Advocacy Award

In 2024, we collectively mourned the passing of Christine Torry, a longtime PLA member, who had a distinguished career, of which 25 years were dedicated to child welfare work. Chris was shy about receiving accolades; inspired by her legacy, the PLA wants to create a new award in her honour.

The Christine Torry Child Advocacy Award recognizes the substantial contributions made to the practice of child advocacy work by a member of the Peel Law Association.

The Board intends to formally recognize members of our legal community for their important and often undervalued work with children.

The nominated individual will have held a minimum five-year membership with the Peel Law Association.

The award winner should demonstrate the following:

  • Significant work in aid of children (0-18 years old)
  • Their nominator must document any of the following:
      • Significant service in matters involving representation of children or advocacy for children, including personal rights, property rights, in Family, Criminal, Civil, Estate and/or related practice matters.
      • Voluntary sector contributions to support children.
      • Academic contributions to advance the rights of children.
      • Other work with intersectional children, and/or work not listed above.

If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please provide the following information and forward all relevant documentation directly to the PLA for consideration by the Nominating Committee at the email address provided below:

  • Name of Award
  • Name of Nominee, address and telephone information
