Check out this Emond title from their new Personal Injury Law Series!

Information provided on the Emond's website:

The Law of Occupiers' Liability is the only resource of its kind to offer a balanced, up-to-date guide to one of the most common and continually evolving areas in personal injury practice. Authored by Alan Preyra (Ontario, plaintiff side) and Emily Unrau (British Columbia, defence side), this text provides an analysis of the legislation, case law, and procedural issues governing slips, trips, and falls across Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. Drawing on both plaintiff and defence perspectives, it delivers a uniquely comprehensive analysis and practical guidance for all parties.

In addition to legal analysis, this resource delivers step-by-step guidance through each stage of the litigation process, including document disclosure, examinations for discovery, expert evidence, summary claims, and more. It also addresses key topics, such as duty of care, available defences, municipal notice and limitation provisions, the shift from common law to statutory duties, and the treatment of multiple occupiers and independent contractors.

Photography and the Law addresses the essential legal questions that photographers encounter daily. It is a valuable practical resource, providing concise explanations on what is permitted and where the legal boundaries are drawn for photography.

In a world rife with cameras and audiovisual technologies, photographers, both casual and professional, may often find themselves wondering where the legalities of their practices lie. In this groundbreaking book, respected legal author Robert Ratcliffe tackles these very questions. Photography and the Law is a comprehensive legal reference for photographers, covering key legal concepts encountered in the field. It addresses a wide range of topics, including copyright law, licensing, privacy, and risk management, with real-life examples and case studies to illustrate common challenges. In addition to his eminent legal career, Ratcliffe is an experienced amateur photographer, giving him a distinctive perspective on the intersection of photography and the law which shines through in this exhaustive sourcebook. This guide provides clear explanations of legal boundaries and practical advice to help photographers navigate their rights and responsibilities with confidence. Whether working in personal, editorial, or commercial photography, readers will gain the essential knowledge needed to protect their work, act ethically, and avoid legal pitfalls.

Check out this new resource at the PLA library!

Information provided on the American Bar Association's website:

In the legal profession, the pursuit of justice often comes at a cost - a toll on the mental health and well-being of lawyers. Burnout, depression, and elevated rates of anxiety are critical issues affecting the legal community. This book explains why this is happening and what lawyers can do to manage the stress and anxiety which is endemic in the legal profession.

It is imperative for lawyers to understand that the mental and emotional health issues they face are not the result of weakness or failure. It is the result of poor training. This book provides the training they need to shift their perspective of the challenges of practicing law. While Covid was a catalyst for stress, anxiety, and burnout, it also has highlighted the need for change. This book provides that change.

Check out this new addition to the PLA library!

Information provided on Bristol University Press' website:

Since the 2012 LASPO cuts, legal aid provision in England and Wales has faced severe challenges, threatening both client access to justice and traditional practices.

This book offers an in-depth ethnographic study of how these cuts have transformed the professional identity of legal aid lawyers amid shrinking resources. By documenting the first-hand experiences of those on the front line, it reveals how these professionals navigate the precarious landscape while maintaining their commitment to justice.

This is a unique and insightful look into the evolving role of legal aid lawyers in a diminishing industry across both civil and criminal remits.
